Clipform

MCP Server

Use Clipform from AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and more.

Clipform has an MCP server that lets AI assistants create and manage forms through conversation. Describe what you want and the assistant builds it - nodes, media, theming, and more.

Connect your AI assistant

Claude (claude.ai, Desktop, mobile)

Clipform is listed in the Claude Connectors Directory. In Claude, open Customize > Connectors, find Clipform, and click Connect - then sign in to Clipform and pick the workspace to use. That listing connects to https://mcp.clipform.io/forms: the form-building tools (create, edit, publish, results) with no media generation.

To add it by hand, or to get the media tools as well:

  1. Go to Customize > Connectors and click Add custom connector
  2. Enter https://mcp.clipform.io/forms (forms and results) or https://mcp.clipform.io (everything, including narration and video)
  3. Authorize access to your Clipform workspace when prompted

Both URLs work anonymously; you're asked to sign in when you publish (see Anonymous).

ChatGPT

Clipform is published as an app in ChatGPT. It's available on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro, and on Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces (an admin may need to enable apps first). It isn't available in the EEA, Switzerland, or the UK yet.

  1. Go to Settings then Apps (labelled Apps, Plugins, or Connectors depending on your version)
  2. Search for Clipform and select it
  3. Click Connect and authorize access to your Clipform workspace

Bring it into any chat with the + menu or by typing @Clipform.

To add it by hand instead - where the app directory isn't available, or to point at a specific URL - go to Settings > Security and login > Developer mode, enable it, then create a connector for https://mcp.clipform.io (everything, including media) or https://mcp.clipform.io/forms (forms and results only). Developer mode is web-only, on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu.

Claude Code

Run this in your terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http clipform https://mcp.clipform.io

This works without signing in (see Anonymous); run /mcp in Claude Code to sign in to your Clipform account.

To run the local stdio server instead, pass your API key (the local server always needs one):

claude mcp add clipform -e CLIPFORM_API_KEY=cf_xxx -- npx -y @clipform/mcp-server

Generate an API key in your dashboard under Developers > API keys.

Claude Desktop

Connect through Customize > Connectors, the same as Claude above.

To run the local stdio server instead, add it to your claude_desktop_config.json with your API key (the local server always needs one):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "clipform": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@clipform/mcp-server"],
      "env": {
        "CLIPFORM_API_KEY": "cf_xxx"
      }
    }
  }
}

With an API key, forms land directly in your workspace with your plan tier limits.

Other MCP clients (Cursor, Windsurf, OpenClaw, etc.)

For clients that support OAuth, point them at https://mcp.clipform.io. Discovery, registration, and authentication are handled automatically via RFC 9728, RFC 8414, and RFC 7591.

For clients that only support stdio transport, run the npx command with your API key (the local server always needs one):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "clipform": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "@clipform/mcp-server"],
      "env": {
        "CLIPFORM_API_KEY": "cf_xxx"
      }
    }
  }
}

If you're managing existing forms or pulling results (not building new ones with media), connect to https://mcp.clipform.io/forms instead of the bare URL - it cuts per-turn token cost by only loading the relevant tools, and it is what the Claude Connectors Directory listing uses. The bare URL loads everything, which is best when you're also building forms with media.

Load only the tools you need

Two ways to load a subset of tools instead of all of them, cutting per-turn token cost:

  • https://mcp.clipform.io/forms - a fixed surface: the account and forms groups only. Use this for managing forms and reading results without media.
  • ?features= on the bare URL - pick any combination of groups, e.g. https://mcp.clipform.io?features=forms,media.
GroupCovers
accountListing/viewing forms, results, and identity (clipform_whoami)
formsBuilding and editing forms, nodes, and logic, plus craft guides and build workflows
researchCurrent-news lookup for quiz research, plus the generation audit log
mediaGenerating, rendering, uploading, and searching media

Combine any subset with commas. Omit the param to load every tool (the default), and an unrecognized value is ignored and falls back to loading everything. The guidance the assistant receives (build workflows, craft guides) adapts to the groups loaded, so a forms-only connection is never told to narrate or render.

How authentication works

Remote (claude.ai, ChatGPT, etc.)

When you connect via https://mcp.clipform.io or https://mcp.clipform.io/forms, OAuth 2.1 handles everything:

  1. Your AI client discovers our authorization server automatically
  2. You sign in to Clipform and approve access to a workspace
  3. Tokens are audience-bound to the exact URL you connected to and scoped to mcp only
  4. Forms are created directly in your workspace with your plan tier limits

The workspace you approve is the connection's default. One connection also reaches every other workspace you belong to in the same company: ask the assistant to work in a named workspace, and it targets that workspace for that request (use clipform_whoami to list them). Membership is checked on every request, and results name the workspace they landed in.

To disconnect, remove the connector in your AI client, or revoke it under Settings > Authorized apps in the Clipform dashboard.

API key (Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, etc.)

Set CLIPFORM_API_KEY as an environment variable. Generate keys in your dashboard under Developers > API keys.

With an API key:

  • Forms are created directly in the workspace the key belongs to
  • Your plan tier limits apply (no 3-node cap on Pro)
  • No dashboard links needed

Anonymous (no auth)

When you connect to https://mcp.clipform.io (or /forms) without signing in:

  1. Each session gets its own temporary, claimable Clipform account behind the scenes, and every form you build in that conversation lands in it
  2. Forms are created as drafts with a preview link only you can open - nothing is public until you claim the account
  3. The free plan's limits apply (currently up to 5 forms) - hit the limit and the tool result includes a claim link
  4. While a form is unclaimed, its ID is itself the credential to edit it - anyone who has it can add or change content until you claim the account
  5. Use the claim link (returned with your first form, periodically after, and at the form limit) to sign into that account, then publish when ready

On clients that support signing in mid-conversation, asking to publish an anonymous form prompts you to link your account right there - the claim link still works everywhere.

When you sign in this way, any unclaimed form you reference moves into your account with the same links, so anything you already shared keeps working. It counts toward your plan's form limit.

What works anonymously, and what needs sign-in

Anonymous sessions can build: create or import a form, edit it by its form ID, attach media, render video, and read the craft guides, build workflows and creative asset catalog (clipform_get_guide, clipform_get_workflow, clipform_list_assets, which don't create an account at all).

Anything about your account needs you to sign in first: clipform_list_forms, clipform_whoami, clipform_get_results, clipform_get_responses, and clipform_delete_form. Called anonymously, these don't create a throwaway account. Claude prompts you to sign in; other clients get a tool error that says so, and you can keep building with the form ID from clipform_create_form in the meantime.

Example prompts

Try any of these with a connected assistant:

Create a Clipform called "Customer Feedback" with a choice question asking "How would you rate our service?" with options Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor, then an open-ended question asking "Any additional comments?", and finish with an end screen saying "Thanks for your feedback!"

Build a five-question trivia quiz called "Geography Challenge". Each question should be multiple choice with four options and one correct answer, and the end screen should thank the player for taking part.

Show me the results for my "Customer Feedback" form - the response counts for each choice and any recent open-text comments.

The MCP server is published as @clipform/mcp-server on npm.
