Node Types

Learn about each node type and when to use it.

For programmatic node configuration (field names, JSON schemas, config options), see Add Node in the API Reference.

Every form is built from nodes. Each node represents a step in the form - a question for respondents, a welcome screen, or an end screen. You add nodes by clicking + Add node in the toolbar at the bottom of the canvas, or by dragging a connection from any node into empty space and picking a type.

Choice

A multiple-choice node with predefined answer options. This is the most common node type.

When to use it: surveys, quizzes, feedback forms, polls - any time you want respondents to pick from a set of answers.

What you can configure:

  • Answer key - set which options are correct and enable scoring (great for quizzes)
  • Show feedback - show correct/incorrect indicators after selection
  • Randomise options - shuffle the order options appear to reduce bias
  • Reveal options after - when the question has a video, keep the answer options hidden until a set number of seconds into the clip (default 3), so respondents watch before they choose. Set it to 0 to show the options straight away. You'll find it in the node's media controls, and the delay can't run past the length of the video.

Open-Ended

A free-form response node where respondents can reply however they want.

When to use it: collecting detailed feedback, testimonials, or open-ended responses where you don't want to constrain the answer.

What you can configure:

  • Response formats - choose which response types to allow: text, audio recording, or video recording. You can enable any combination. By default, all three are available.
  • Max recording length - when audio or video recording is enabled, cap how long each recording can run. Set it anywhere from 10 to 300 seconds; the default is 120 seconds (2 minutes).

Details

A structured node for collecting several fields on one screen - first name, last name, email, and phone, plus any custom fields you add.

When to use it: lead capture, registration forms, collecting respondent details at the end of a form.

Available fields: the built-in fields are First name, Last name, Email, and Phone. You can also add your own custom fields for anything else (for example Company, Job title, Website, LinkedIn, or a free-text message). You choose which fields to include and which are required.

What you can configure:

  • Heading and description - customise the text above the form fields
  • Field selection - toggle which fields appear and mark them as required or optional
  • Consent checkboxes - add privacy policy or terms of service checkboxes

Agreement documents

Attach a PDF to an agreement to have respondents read the full document before accepting. Click Attach PDF agreement under the agreement on the Details node (PDF only).

Require scroll to accept is a per-agreement switch, on by default. When it's on, respondents must open the agreement and scroll to the end before they can accept. The individual response in Responses shows whether each agreement was accepted, the wording, and a link to the exact PDF they accepted. Whether they scrolled to the end and when they accepted are included in the CSV export and the webhook.

In the individual response, the chip named after the PDF opens the exact agreement each respondent accepted in a new tab, even after you replace the file.

Button

A simple screen with a single button. No respondent input, just a prompt and a call to action.

When to use it: welcome screens, intros, transition screens between sections, or acknowledgements.

What you can configure:

  • Button text - the label on the button (defaults to "Continue")
  • Button style - primary, secondary, or outline

End Screen

The final screen respondents see after completing the form. Every form has at least one.

When to use it: every form needs an end screen. You can also create multiple end screens for different outcomes (e.g. different results based on quiz scores).

What you can configure:

  • Title and message - the thank-you text
  • Icon - choose from tick, trophy, star, crown, party, or none
  • Show score - display the respondent's quiz score (see Scoring)
  • Call to action - add a button to restart the form or link to an external URL

Redirect

A terminal node that sends respondents to an external URL when they reach it.

When to use it: directing respondents to a payment page, a booking link, your homepage, or any external URL after completing the form. Use this instead of an End Screen when you want respondents to leave Clipform entirely.

What you can configure:

  • Destination URL - the URL respondents are sent to
  • Delay - optionally show a brief message before redirecting

File Download

A node that lets respondents download one or more files you attach - a resource, template, or discount code - before continuing.

When to use it: lead magnets, resource downloads, discount codes, or any time you want to hand respondents a file partway through a form.

What you can configure:

  • Files - the files respondents can download, each with a friendly display name
  • Button text - the label on the Continue button (defaults to "Continue")
  • Description - optional text shown above the file list

Payment

A node that collects a payment from respondents inline - they pay with a card without leaving the form, and the money settles directly in your own Stripe account.

When to use it: paid bookings, event tickets, deposits, donations, or any form where a respondent needs to pay before continuing.

What you can configure:

  • Amount - how much to charge, in your chosen currency
  • Currency - USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, or AUD
  • Stripe account - the connected account the payment settles into (connect one from Integrations first)
  • Heading - optional heading shown above the amount, e.g. "Order summary"
  • Description - optional text shown below the heading, explaining what the payment is for

See the Stripe integration guide to connect an account.

Adding media to nodes

Choice, Open-Ended, and Button nodes all support media. Click on any node and use the media section to add a video or image. You can:

  • Record video from your webcam
  • Upload a video or image file
  • Search the built-in stock media library

Media is what turns a standard form into a conversational experience. Uploaded video is optimized to 1080p for fast mobile playback.
